Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Ovadia has more than 25 years of experience in leading global operations and driving innovative technologies from R&D to the market. Since joining Check-Cap in 2013, Mr. Ovadia has served as the Israeli site manager, vice president of research and development, chief operating officer and now chief executive officer.
Prior to joining Check-Cap, Mr. Ovadia served as a global director at Philips Healthcare where he managed the computed tomography systems branch across three continents. Mr. Ovadia also served as a member of Philips Medical Israel’s management team, where he played a key role in forging strategic partnerships with large firms. Prior to his position at Philips Healthcare, Mr. Ovadia served in various positions at Elbit Systems, a major global defense company where he had full accountability for aircraft and naval upgrades across the U.S., Europe, Asia and Israel.
Mr. Ovadia holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from the Technion Institute, Haifa, Israel.
Yoav Kimchy, Ph.D.
Founder and Chief Technology Officer
Dr. Kimchy has more than 10 years of experience in the development and management of innovative medical device companies. He founded Check-Cap in 2005 and has served as the chief technology officer since 2009.
Before founding Check-Cap, Dr. Kimchy served as an algorithm specialist and technical project leader at a government contract company, director of cardiovascular research at a biomedical company and vice president of R&D at a medical device company focused on nuclear molecular imaging technology.
Dr. Kimchy received his doctorate from the Technion Israel Institute of Technology.
Chief Financial Officer
Ms. Rosenzweig has nearly 20 years of financial management experience. Before joining Check-Cap as chief financial officer, Ms. Rosenzweig served as chief financial officer of Entera Bio Ltd.
Prior to Entera Bio, Ms. Rosenzweig served in various finance roles including vice president and chief financial officer of Camtek Ltd. and director of finance at Elron Electronic Industries Ltd. Ms. Rosenzweig began her career as a senior accountant at Luboshitz Kasierer, which is now part of Ernst & Young.
Ms. Rosenzweig holds a Bachelor of Arts in accounting and economics from the University of Haifa, Israel, and is a certified public accountant in Israel.
Vice President of Research & Development
Mr. Shpigelman has more than 25 years of experience leading the R&D efforts of innovative medical device technologies. He joined Check-Cap in 2012 as the director of development and has served as vice president of research and development since 2018.
Prior to joining Check-Cap, Mr. Shpigelman served as research and development manager at Orsan Medical Technologies and vice manager of research and development at GI-View, a medical technology company that developed a single-use auto maneuvering colonoscopy. Mr. Shpigelman held various positions at Scitex and Creo including hardware and software manager and director in the input division.
Mr. Shpigelman holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.
Joshua (Shuki) Belkar
Vice President of Operations
Mr. Belkar has more than 20 years of experience managing operations at global medical device companies, including managing large volume manufacturing of capsule-based products.
Prior to joining Check-Cap, Mr. Belkar served as vice president of operations and global services at Mazor Robotics Ltd., which was recently acquired by Medtronic Plc. Prior to Mazor Robotics, Mr. Belkar served in various executive roles at Medtronic, including director of operations, vice president of manufacturing and operations and director of production. Before joining Medtronic Plc., Mr. Belkar served as manager of operations at Elscint Medical Systems Ltd.
Mr. Belkar holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from the Open University, Israel, and a master’s in logistic management and an executive Master of Business Administration, both from Bar-Ilan University, Israel.
Vardit Segal, Ph.D.
Vice President of Clinical Affairs
Dr. Segal has 20 years of diverse experience in the medical device industry, having led clinical teams across a broad range of medical technology companies.
Prior to joining Check-Cap, Dr. Segal served as vice president of clinical and regulatory affairs at Allium Medical Solutions Ltd., a developer and manufacturer of advanced minimally invasive products, where she led the process of receiving an FDA clearance for the WIRION embolic protection device, later acquired by CSI Medical. Before Allium, Dr. Segal served as vice president of clinical affairs at BetaStim Ltd., a medical device company focused on the diabetes space. Prior to joining BetaStim Ltd., Dr. Segal worked at Remon Medical Technologies, a medical device company focused on cardiology, later acquired by Boston Scientific, where she served as clinical affairs director.
Dr. Segal earned a Bachelor of Science degree in food engineering and biotechnology, a Master of Science in biomedical engineering and a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, all from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology.
Vice President of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs
Mr. Hershko has more than 30 years of experience in quality assurance and regulatory affairs in the medical device industry. He has led the transfer of several new products into global markets from the regulatory and quality aspects.
Prior to joining Check-Cap, Mr. Hershko held executive positions as director of quality assurance and regulatory affairs in several medical device companies, including Medical Compression Systems Ltd., Q Core Medical Ltd., Syneron and GE Healthcare.
Mr. Heskhko holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business from Derby University.
Noa Reshef, MBA
Director of Human Resources
Ms. Reshef has more than 15 years of experience managing and leading human resources operations, including talent acquisition and building of recruitment infrastructure, budget planning and implementation and leadership development. She has led Check-Cap’s human resources department since 2009.
Prior to joining Check-Cap, Ms. Reshef was a personal assistant to vice president of business development at Orbotech, a technology company focused on the manufacturing of consumer and industrial products throughout the electronics and adjacent industries. Ms. Reshef also acted as personal assistant to vice prime minister, Mr. Shimon Peres.
Ms. Reshef holds a Bachelor of Arts in Health Systems Management and a Master of Business Administration, both from Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Israel.
Board of Directors
Steven Hanley, MBA
Mr. Hanley is the chairman of the Check-Cap board of directors and has served as a board member since February 2015.
He is the co-founder and chief executive officer of MediBeacon Inc., a medical device and pharmaceutical company. Mr. Hanley is an experienced global business leader, having spent nearly 18 years with the Covidien family of companies, most recently as president of Covidien plc’s imaging solutions business unit. Additionally, he is the chairman of the board of managers for Daya CNS LLC and a member of the advisory board for Kogent Surgical LLC.
Mr. Hanley holds a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science from Marquette University.
Mary Jo Gorman, M.D.
Dr. Gorman has served as a member of the Check-Cap board of directors since May 2015.
She currently serves as lead managing partner at Prosper Women Entrepreneurs, an early-stage venture fund focused on women-led businesses, and is the founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Advanced ICU Care, the largest telemedicine ICU services provider in the U.S. She also serves on the boards of TripleCare and Janus Choice. Previously, she served at IPC-The Hospitalist Company as chief medical officer, vice president of medical affairs and regional medical director. Additionally, Dr. Gorman served as president of Inpatient Care Group, a hospitalist group that she had founded and was subsequently sold to IPC.
Dr. Gorman holds a medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, a Master of Business Administration from Olin School of Business, Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry and biology (Cum Laude) from St. Louis University.
XiangQian (XQ) Lin
Mr. Lin has served as a member of the Check-Cap board of directors since February 2015.
He has served as the group president and chief executive officer of the Esco Group of Companies, a leading global life sciences tools provider active in laboratory, medical and pharmaceutical equipment based in Singapore. Mr. Lin has also served as the founding managing partner of Esco Ventures, a strategic investment arm of the Esco Group of Companies focused on early-stage investment in life sciences tools and med-tech start-ups. He co-founded and currently serves as chairman of Esco Ventures X, a biotech venture creation focused on platform therapeutics technologies, and Carmentix, a precision medicine company. Previously, he served as president of Esco Technologies, Inc.
Mr. Lin holds a Bachelor of Science in economics from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Yanai has served as a member of the Check-Cap board of directors since March 2015.
He has served as senior vice president and chief financial officer of Given Imaging Ltd., senior vice president and chief financial officer of Koor Industries Ltd., vice president and chief financial officer of NICE Systems Ltd. and as vice president, finance and chief financial officer of Elscint Ltd. He also has served as director of Mazor Robotics Ltd., Medical Compression Systems (D.B.N) Ltd., Standard & Poor’s Maalot, CompuLab Ltd., Efranat Ltd. and Hadassah Medical Organization, in addition to working as the chairman of the Israeli Fund for UNICEF.
Mr. Yanai holds a Bachelor of Science in accounting and economics from Tel Aviv University.
Clara Ezed, MBA
Ms. Ezed has nearly 20 years of experience working in the pharmaceutical industry and has served as a member of the Check-Cap board of directors since May 2017.
Previously, she served as vice president of legal and regulatory affairs at Emas Pharma, a leading global life sciences contract research organization. Prior to that she served as vice president, regulatory affairs and drug safety at European Medical Advisory Services. Ms. Ezed is also a member of the Bar of England and Wales and a member of the General Pharmaceutical Council.
Ms. Ezed holds a Master of Business Administration from Middlesex University, a postgraduate diploma in pharmacovigilance from the University of Hertfordshire, a postgraduate diploma in law from Nottingham University and a postgraduate diploma in legal professional services from City Law School, London. She obtained her Bachelor of Science.
Scientific Advisory Board
Nadir Arber, M.D.
Dr. Nadir Arber currently serves as full professor of medicine and gastroenterology and Yechiel and Helen Lieber Chair for Cancer Research at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center and Tel Aviv University, Sackler School of Medicine. He also serves as the director of the Integrated Cancer Prevention Center (ICPC) at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center.
Seth A. Gross, M.D.
Dr. Gross currently serves as an associate professor of medicine at New York University (NYU) School of Medicine, chief of the gastroenterology section at Tisch Hospital and director of endoscopy at NYU Langone Medical Center.
